ABOUT DOM
INTRODUCING DOM BARRETT
I started when I was 12 years old. My dad bowled in leagues and I began in the Saturday morning YBC.
When I was around 13-14 I began to take bowling a little more seriously and had some great advice from Mrs Terry Brooker who went on to coach at national level.
She taught me great fundamentals and luckily for me, as bowling was in such an evolution with bowling ball and lane technology changing, she was more than happy for me to change my style and become a bowler who hooked the ball a lot.
I then went on to play tournaments around the country and by the time I was 17 I was leading the England rankings. I then continued to lead rankings in each age division as I got older and represent England, winning titles in Australia, USA and Denmark along with medals in Thailand and Germany.
I decided to try my hand at the European Tour when I was 21. I faired quite well and after a few events I was hooked. Breaking even, maybe even a small profit at most events and learning a huge amount. I then quit my job and bowled for a living. Luckily, I won my first European Tour event in Naples a few months later which financially set me up for a couple of years to give my all at this level.
Since then, I have won a number of international titles including wins in Qatar, Sweden, Turkey, Bulgaria, Malta, Poland, Ireland, Wales and my biggest title of all – The World Tenpin Masters in Barnsley.
I have always been a bowler who has played as many tournaments as possible, as I believe the knowledge and experience you get from competition is second to none.
I will continue to play as many tournaments as I can to become a better bowler and I shall also be posting these upcoming events in my blog section.
